Everyone know water expands as it freezes and in doing so exerts a great deal of pressure, sufficient to crack or break a plastic tube. How do you recommend dealing with this? We are not really into the rainy season yet but I found in my location (Northern Oregon) even an inch of rain over a few weeks was not the dominant effect on my (shallow) ground water level, as measured in two pipes 20' and 40' deep in my backyard. The water level is about 18' down here right now, and it is dominated by air humidity! Whenever surface air relative humidity drops below 79% the water level drops, and above 79% it rises. Four humid days added as much as 1/4 inch of rain, while two hot days dropped it down about 1/2 inch.Waltzing with Widgetshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08736931371925628891noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3915442507015152354.post-38700077595490483782020-08-24T08:46:13.929-06:002020-08-24T08:46:13.929-06:00NovaLynx makes a nice line of NWS type gauges. He sent reports into Cheyenne for many years and even measured the river water. He was really a "CoCoRaHaS " observer to train the rest of us. In 10 years I don't think he missed a single day of reporting, snow, rain, wind or nice weather. He was up every day, also in his 70's.
